Before coming to University, I'd never really delved into creative subjects, as the sixth form I went to was academically based. It didn't give me a chance to be creative, so it was definitely daunting coming to an Arts university, especially with people who already have so much experience either in the fashion or creative industries. I feel like I settled in quite well and I'm enjoying the work immensely.
My Favourite project was the trend report, I was able to combine one of my favourite hobbies (F1) with fashion, but it was challenging as I didn't check my word count and ended up with 1000 words to cut down. What I've found the most difficult is using the different platforms that I'm not used to, technology definitely isn't my strong point, so it took me a while to understand how to use Indesign but I've come to love using it and find it much simpler.
I've often struggled with time management so to keep myself on track at the beginning of each week I'll write a plan for each day and what work I'm going to do and also write down smaller tasks so it keeps me motivated.
I really enjoyed the image and message supporting document as it gave me the opportunity to learn more about the fashion industry as I did not know too much before starting the course. Researching Peter Lindberg's many pictures has been really interesting as I've seen many of his pictures not knowing who they were taken by. In general, learning how to analyse fashion photography provided me with new skills and allowed me to look deeper into the story that a photographer may be trying to tell through their image, it showed me that fashion photography is more than just what the model is wearing. I loved doing the product shot as I feel like I'm quite good at working with random materials and I really enjoy the actual photography itself as I now take pictures of everything! However, the DAZED photoshoot was quite challenging, as we weren't able to use the studio but we managed to find a suitable location, however, the quality of the photos is not what I was hoping for. I really liked the message behind them of what fashion does to the world around us. Writing this blog was very enjoyable in many aspects in the sense of designing a website and making my own collages, it has probably been my favourite part of the project this term although I still think I'm trying to find my tone of voice within my writing. I definitely will carry on the blog to hopefully improve as I really relish the writing. I love the independence at university which previously I haven't had, it allows me to go deeper on whatever the project is and learn what I like doing, as well as this I really enjoy working in a group because you can bounce ideas off of each other. For the next projects, I'm going to work on trying to engage more in the workshops and ask more questions as I end up having loads after the lecture which I could have asked during.
